The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill invites applications for a Vietnamese language instructor for the 2024-25 academic year, with the possibility of renewal. We are seeking a skilled language instructor with a commitment to a proficiency-based approach to language teaching. The instructor will teach three sections of Vietnamese language per semester, including elementary and intermediate levels. Classes meet 3 days a week for 50 minutes. Fall classes will be held MWF at 11:15, 12:20, and 2:30 (Eastern time); spring class meeting times are not yet scheduled but are likely to be similar. In addition to teaching, responsibilities may include placement testing, holding office hours, organizing cultural enrichment activities, and participating in program development. The instructor will also receive funding (up to $1000) for conference travel and may be eligible for other professional development opportunities. This is a temporary position that carries no benefits. We will consider both applicants who would be able to teach in person on our campus, as well as applicants outside the local area who would teach remotely. At least one course section will be taught remotely via Zoom regardless of the location of the instructor. If the instructor is remote, they must be located in the United States. For this Lecturer position, the pay is $8000 per section, for a total of $48,000 across two semesters. It’s possible that one of the three spring sections may be an advanced (third year) level.
