To begin Fall 2024, rank I-2, non-tenure track and annually renewable, dependent on satisfactory performance and need.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate courses in Vietnamese Language and Culture;
- 4-4 teaching load;
- Assist in curriculum development;
- Participate in the design and development of online courses;
- Assist in the development of assessment instruments;
- Student advising;
- Engage in recruitment;
- Maintain an appropriate program of professional development;
- Participate in departmental committees;
- Engage in departmental, university, and community service;
- Other duties as assigned by the Chair.
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.A. degree in a Vietnamese language, language education, literature, education, linguistics, second language studies or relevant field from a college or university of recognized standing;
- Evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level as substantiated by student and peer evaluations and/or professional references;
- High level of spoken and written proficiency in Vietnamese;
- High level proficiency in the English language;
- Demonstrated ability in effective collaborative work in the development of curricular innovations including, but not restricted to, on-line instruction & distance learning modalities;
- High level of familiarity and experience with Vietnamese culture/s and its cultural diversities;
- Experience with student recruitment and advising;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, staff and administration.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Knowledge of curriculum development;
- PhD in Second Language Studies, Multilingual Education, Literature, Education, or related fields;
- Knowledge in proficiency-based language assessment;
- Established connections with Vietnamese communities in Hawai‘i;
- Experience in teaching Vietnamese heritage and non-heritage students.
