“Gathering a Basket of Wisdom on Vietnam and Vietnamese Culture”,a free virtual Workshopfor K-12 Educators, sponsored by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
This workshop provides teachers with resources and materials to help them understand their Vietnamese students and communities. Participants will explore Vietnamese culture, as well as Vietnamese American experiences and the integration of the arts with social studies and literacy standards. It will also help teachers meet the needs of EL (emerging bilingual and multilingual) learners. Participants will receive a free copy of the novel “The Mountains Sing” by Nguyen Phan Que Mai and a sketchbook to use during the workshop.
The Workshop will take place over four 3-hour Saturday sessions in October 2023 via Zoom:
- Saturday Oct. 7th, from 1-4pm PST / 4-7pm EST
- Saturday Oct. 14th, from 1-4pm PST / 4-7pm EST
- Saturday Oct. 21st, from 1-4pm PST / 4-7pm EST
- Saturday, Oct. 28th, from 1-4pm PST / 4-7pm EST
Please submit this by application form by Sept. 5th to help us get to know you. We are looking for teachers who can attend all four sessions of the workshop, participate in all the activities, and who agree to provide feedback at the end of the workshop. We will review and notify selected participants soon after via email.
