Contractor Position

American Councils for International Education is looking for experienced Target Language Experts in Bengali, Indonesian, Tajik, Vietnamese, Bulgarian and German to work on a federally funded test item development project for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). Target Language Experts will find authentic listening and reading passages, provide transcripts for listening passages and render them into English. All work will be done remotely through an online item development interface.

Assessment items will target three base levels of proficiency on the ILR scale (Levels 1, 2 and 3). Consultants will be provided with training on authentic passage selection criteria as well as the item development interface.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate with American Councils test development team to ensure passages align with ILR proficiency scale and DLIFLC guidelines
  • Be responsive to and apply feedback shared by American Councils team members
  • Review content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, style and format specifications consistent with editorial guidelines
  • Plan work accordingly to established priorities and project schedules
Qualifications:
  • Hold an ILR level-4 proficiency in the target language, and an ILR level-3 proficiency in English
  • Previous experience in ILR-based test development, language teaching or curriculum design preferred

Professional Aide

We are looking for native speakers/people with advanced level language skills in select less commonly taught languages (LCTLs) with the ability to review, proof, and edit written and audio language learning activities. This is a temporary project that would involve approximately 50-100 hours of work for each language; successful candidates will be hired as a temporary/on-call employee and will consult with project team members to determine when they are able to work on the project.
