Announcements

  • The 2024 MAFLT LCTL Innovation Awards! These awards recognize outstanding, innovative, and transformative uses of technology in the teaching of Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs). Three prizes ranging between $250 and $500 will be awarded this year. Applicants must submit their application by January 31st, 2024. You can view last year's award winners on at the blog.

Workshops & Conferences

  • 2024 Virtual Heritage Language Teacher Workshop. The application period is now open. Deadline to submit: January 31, 2024; Acceptance notifications: February 2024.
  • Summer 2024 Mellon Workshops. Applications for the Summer 2024 cycle are now open. All workshops take place this summer in Chicago in person; there is no hybrid attendance option. You must be an instructor of a LCTL (Less Commonly Taught Language) working with a partner or in a cohort in order to join this project.
  • The Call for Proposals for ACTFL 2024 has opened, with submissions due by Friday, January 26, 2024. The ACTFL Annual Convention and World Languages Expo will be held Friday, November 22 through Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the Philadelphia Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA.
  • LCTL Instructor Professional Development Workshop focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT). The workshop will take place in person at Michigan State University on Monday, May 13 and Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Applications are due by January 31, 2024, and selected applicants should anticipate receiving an email regarding their status by February 14th.
  • ONLINE LANGUAGE TEACHING - Free Professional Development Courses offered by Michigan State – National LCTL Resource Center. These online, asynchronous professional development courses feature task- and project-based learning.
  • TBLT in Asia 2024: To be held from July 5 th to July 7 th , 2024, at Meijo University (Nagoya Dome-Mae Campus) in Nagoya, Japan. Call for Papers now open!
  • The 12th International Language Teacher Education Conference welcomes proposals for symposia, papers, discussion sessions, and posters on all aspects of the education and professional development of language teachers. Proposals must address an audience of language teacher educators (not language teachers) and may report on empirical research, theoretical and conceptual analyses, or practices in language teacher education. Submission Deadline: Friday, January 12, 2024
